I will be in town for a few weeks and am itching to teach a class/workshop. If you are interested in any of the following, please let me know what day of the week and what time of day would work for you:
- Beginning Gyotaku: Direct method - applying acrylic paint directly on the fish and printing on muslin
- Hawaiian Gyotaku: Direct method - applying sumi-e ink to the fish for a quick print on Japanese paper followed by colorizing the print with watercolor pencils.
- Advanced Gyotaku: This would be an all-day workshop to be taught jointly by Margaret Morley and me. We recently studied with Japanese Gyotaku Master Mineo Yamamoto and can lead you through the in-direct method. This is done by preparing the fish, laying silk over it, and applying inks with tampos for a colorful finished product on silk.
- Acrylics: Mixing colors, creating a focus, using values.
- Golden mediums to be used with acrylics: I envision each participant bringing one medium for us all to share. The more participants, the more mediums with which to experiment.
- Mixed media: Adhering laser copies of your photos to canvas to assist you with your painting composition.
- Painting on glass--wine glasses, vinegar and oil bottles, bowls, framed glass or whatever using special paint that can be fired in your oven to make your creation permanent/dishwasher safe!
